Last week I shocked a few of you by announcing that cold calling as a strategy is no longer effective and so I decided to write about one of the many strategies that does work today – Blogging.
Blogging is huge. In fact, blogs are extremely powerful mediums — everywhere you look today you will see blogs, even the White House has one! From politics, to news media to commercial real estate – they’re everywhere. And the best part? It costs next to nothing to have one.
Why should you want one? Because blogging leads to credibility and credibility leads to clients. Blogs are quickly achieving the status of news outlets. And people believe what they see in writing. For example, most people believe what they read in the newspaper even though often times it’s just the way a particular reporter is seeing it. Blogging is no different. For a terrific example take a look at one of my client’s blog – Wayne Kress is with CB Richard Ellis in Bakersfield California and his blog is, www.bakersfieldindustrialrealestate.com.
Blogs serve as a way for you to provide unbiased, useful, informative information to your local and commercial real estate community thus attracting potential clients to you. It will allow you to build a following. You can also use your blog to keep your clients and potential clients informed. You could even have multiple blogs – one for tenant rep and one for landlord rep.
The best way to get started is with Word Press. www.WordPress.com is the premier blogging platform (see my resource below for more details).
By now you’re probably asking yourself how a blog can earn additional commissions for you? By using a combination of Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook to drive traffic to your blog where useful, valuable and relevant information is housed. Use your blog to let the prospect clearly see you are the answer to their problem. People not only buy from those they know, like and trust but they also buy solutions to their problems!
There are also a handful of other ways to drive traffic to your blog thus resulting in more clients but I don’t have enough time to go into them right now.
Bottom line? Blogging will generate leads consistently at almost no cost, allow you to be seen as a commercial real estate expert, and create a buzz about your blog in the media. Sound exciting? It is!
